M.I.A. - Arular

7 Apr 2006 row1

Maya Arulpragasam aka M.I.A. aka "The Female Dizzee Rascal" releases her 13 track debut album.

I like to affectionately refer to her as the "The Female Dizzee Rascal" as they both seem to have that "Geezer" type English accent as well as big grimy beats.

The album starts out with 3 of my favourite tracks "Pull Up The People", "Bucky Done Gun" and "Sunshowers". The later samples the disco area hit "Sunshower" by Dr Buzzards Original Savannah Band as the hook.

The rest of the album is pretty solid, the only thing weak on it (along with most albums) is the skits.
Really whats the point? There is nothing funny or clever about skits ...

Arular is one of the freshest albums I have heard in a while and should denfinetly be checked out, especially if you like big beats.
There is also some good remixes available on these albums Piracy Funds Terrorism and BEST OF BOOTIE 2005.
