Quasimoto - The Unseen
Quasimoto is the high pitched alter ego of Madlib.
You will either hate it or love it, there is no in-between.
The name Quasimoto and Madlib have been linked for years, yet they?ve never been seen in the same room together. In fact, Quasimoto?s never been seen in the same room with anyone ? he?s The Unseen.
I first heard Lord Quas on the Madvillain album and to be honest I found Madlibs speedup voice to be annoying more than anything else.
Personally I like Madlib in real time so I couldn't understand why he would speed it up to create the high pitched Lord Quas.
Later I brought the Stones Throw 101 DVD which has the music video for Quasimoto's 'Come on Feet' which got me interested, then one day I was in Borders looking for something to buy and found this album so I thought why not.
The album is mostly about oddities, sex and violence as the sampled intro 'Welcome to Violence' describes:
While violence cloaks itself in a plethora of disguises,
Its favourite mantle still remains,
SEX
The adventures of Lord Quas range from stabbing people in the back with pitchforks, looking up girls dresses and buying jazz records with Madlib. Plenty of stuff for everyone here.
As you would expect from Madlib the production and beats are well above par; the vocal samples are bizzare and I would be keen to know what movies they come from.
Kutmasta Kurt and Peanut Butter Wolf also feature on production.
This is the type of album that you might not like at first but give it a few listens and it will go straight to the top of your play list.
Favourite Tracks:
Bad Character, Goodmorning Sunshine and Come on Feet.
