Kool Keith teams up with Dan the Automator as well as DJ Q-Bert, DJ Shadow, and Sir Menelik for the album which put is solo career in the spot light.

There is no doubt that Dr. Octagon is the album which Kool Keith is best known for.
It is like nothing you have ever heard before, well ahead of its time and hinges on the verge of album perfection.
Futuristic, pornographic, violent, clever, amazing beats, everything anyone could ever want is in here.

The album was originally released in 1996 on the Mo' Wax label as 'Dr. Octagon - Ecologyst'. After receiving critical acclaim it was reissued by Dreamworks as 'Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst'.
There is a slight variation between the two, Ecologyst has 'Biology 101' and 'Earth People (Earth People Mix)' instead of 'Real Raw', 'Blue Flowers Revisited' and '1977', I'm undecided on which version is better I'd recommend getting the cheapest one and 'obtaining' the different tracks somehow...

It's some pretty futuristic shit (set in the year 3000). The production is in a class of it's own, the beats light years ahead of anything at the time, the scratchings complement them perfectly.
Keith's lyrics suit the album and a lot don't make sense (well not to me, not yet anyway) such as on 'Earth People':

Supersonic bionic robot voodoo power
Equator ex my chance to flex skills on ampex
With power meters and heaters gauge anti-freeze
Octagon oxygen aluminum intoxicants
The skits are even entertaining and have some good beats behind them.
For an album which is 10 years old it hasn't aged a day, in-fact is still unlike anything you have previously heard.

This album is a classic and needs to be picked up.

I really like this record, but I only managed to listen to three tracks before my companions came running out from the bank, and I had to drive .
